The Dirty Toxic Truth Behind Your Makeup

Why is vegan makeup so important? Let me ask you a question? Do you like smearing chemicals on your pretty eyes? Didn't think so, neither do I.

Did you know? All the toxins in our make up, pretty much there are no guides lines. They can use whatever they want. Slip in what ever nasty toxins they want. A company can have 40 toxic ingredients and have one botanical ingredient. They can call it a "botanical ingredient" and sell it! There is very few guidelines by the FDA.  The law does not require cosmetic products to have all ingredients listed other than some color additives

Not So Fun Fact
  1. 82,000 toxic cosmetic ingredients
  2.  Some chemicals are carcinogens, pesticides, reproductive toxins and hormone disruptors
  3. Plasticizers used, that's chemicals that keep concrete soft so it can be poured
  4. Degreasers, which are used in car garage companies to clean auto parts
  5.  Surfactants, which help reduce surface tension in dyes

We use these on a daily basis and put this harmful chemicals on our skin and our precious babies.

Popular Toxic Companies

  • Nexus
  • Tresemme
  •  mud
  •  Bullfrog
  • Sauve
  • NARS
  • Shiseido
  • Revlon
  • Cover girl
  • Mac
  • Estee
  • Lauder
  • Channel
  • Bobbi Brown
  • Maybelline
  • L'Oreal
  • Avon
  • Burts bees,
  • herbal essence
  • Johnson and Johnson,
  • Bath and Bodyworks
  •  Victoria Secret

Have you heard of the term, Trade Secret?

It's a Cancer causing chemical “special ingredient”. These Companies are requesting to call their secret chemical of choice this for their brand.

Many popular brands have BHA, BHT, DEA, petroleum, for formaldehyde, and sodium laureth sulfate.  Some are known or suspected carcinogens, meaning they can cause cancer; other's are toxins that interfere with the brain, reproductive and endocrine functions.

All Make up and skin care have some levels of  toxins. It’s understanding which brands are the best choice for your skin and body.

What I'm going to say might make you angry

Animal Testing

It's cruel, unnecessary and in accurate. The federal law lies to us.

Not all labels are created equal. The United States federal law allows companies to leave put toxic ingredients. The United States lags behind many other countries when it comes to protecting people and animals from harmful substances. More then 500 products sold in the US contain ingredients that have been banned for use in cosmetics in other countries. These chemicals have been banned in Canada, Japan, and the European union. You might be using those ingredients everyday.

There is zero protection under animal welfare act. Which is so maddening to me, every life matters. Researchers and scientists at cosmetic companies routinely abuse mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, turtles, as they test their beauty products before going on the market.

According to the Humane Society of the United States, these are common test studies done on our beloved animal's.

  • Skin and eye irritation test, rub chemicals onto the shaved skin or dripped into the eyes of restrained rabbits. These animals never get pain killers.
  •  Repeatedly  force feeding studies, lasting for weeks or months, which animals are made to ingest a substance. Testers can look for signs of general illness or specific health hazards, such as cancer or birth defects
  • Lethal dose tests- in which animals are forced to swallow large amounts of test chemicals to determine if it will cause them to die. This practice has been widely condemned by public, but it still happens today
  • At the end of the test, the animals are killed, normally by asphyxiation, neck breaking, or decapitation. Pain relief is not provided. Horrifying, isn't it?

It's important to know that animal testing is not required by law. The United States food & drug  administration “FDA” nor the United States consumer product safety commission. Neither requires companies to test cosmetic household products on animals. FDA supports alternative testing. It states on their page website

Why company still testing?

Sometimes companies choose to develop or use new untested ingredients in their products. They conduct on animals because they think the results will prove that the ingredients are safe for human use. Other companies test on animals because they want to brag about the unique beneficial properties of specific ingredients and need data to back up their claims.

Animal testing is unreliable and ineffective. They're testing human products on non-human species. According to the Humane Society of the United States, this means that the consumer safety simply isn't guaranteed. The results are variable and difficult to interpret, which means data does not apply to humans. All these animals are killed, maned and tortured for findings that just don't help make beauty products any safer.

How beautiful is that? Sadly companies will still test on animals as long as the demand is there. Which means, you support their brand, you support animal testing.

There is hope! Non-animal  testing can be done by companies that want to provide cruelty free products. Combine human cell-based studies and sophisticated computer models to deliver human relevant results in hours or even days.

What Can YOU do!

Buy Animal cruelty free and use less toxic make -up, skin care, and body care. Here are a few sites that you can continue to learn and get empowered.

Teeth whitener.... Go Black

Whiten Teeth With Charcoal?

I was kinda skeptical that charcoal could actually help whiten teeth. I also, kept it around the house, I’d also seen first hand what happens when it spills on a kitchen floor (grout = permanently ruined) so I was afraid it would stain my teeth and not whiten them.

How Charcoal Works

Activated charcoal is a highly absorbent substance. It removes toxins when they adhere to the surface of the charcoal. It is not absorbed by the body, but passes through the GI system, so chemicals and toxins adhere to it, which then pass through the body and are expelled by the digestive system.

In the 1800s, two men took lethal doses of poisons (including arsenic) and survived without harm… their secret: they mixed the poisons with activated charcoal powder. (Stating the obvious: do not try to repeat these experiments!)
Activated charcoal is extremely effective at binding to toxins from household chemicals, ingested medicines, and other chemicals from the body, especially when taken within 30 minutes of ingestion. For this reason, it is a great first treatment for any kind of poisoning, but should not be taken within several hours of medications (or even vitamins) that DO need to be absorbed.

People use Activated Charcoal when They have an awful bout of food poisoning, it workes wonders! Suggested use is to mixed about a tablespoon of activated charcoal with water and drink quickly. The food poisoning symptoms went away within a couple of hours. This one dose was enough to remedy most food poisoning, but others report having to take this dose several times within a day before finding relief.
Charcoal is not a substance I would take regularly, as it can cause constipation and block mineral absorption if it is taken when it is not needed. Also, it can’t be mixed with dairy products or many foods, as they lower its effectiveness. Charcoal can also cause dehydration in large doses so it is important to consume enough water when charcoal is consumed.
So, it’s all well and good that activated charcoal is an effective poison remedy… but does it really work to whiten teeth.
I did some research and found out that even though it temporarily makes the mouth look extremely black it has the same effect as it does when ingested: it pulls toxins from the mouth and removes stains. Fair warning: when you open your mouth, it is completely black and rather scary looking!
To my surprise, all of the black washes away and it makes your teeth feel extremely clean and smooth. After a few uses, my teeth were noticeably whiter too.
Further research I’ve done on this showed that activated charcoal can actually be helpful in changing the pH and health of the mouth, and as such is effective in preventing cavities and killing the bad bacteria present in tooth decay and gingivitis. For this reason, I now use it as part of my remineralizing protocol for teeth, along with my remineralizing toothpaste.

Of course, it is important to check with your own doctor and dentist before using this or any substance internally or orally.

How I Used Charcoal to Whiten Teeth

Dip a clean, wet toothbrush into the powdered charcoal (or dump a capsule of charcoal on the toothbrush). Lean over the container of charcoal and quickly put the charcoal covered toothbrush in the mouth (this is to protect your sink). Brush in small, gentle circles for 2 minutes, spit carefully and rinse really well.

Your mouth will feel amazingly clean…. your sink, not so much! Use as often as needed. Readers have also reported mixing the charcoal with water and swishing with it for two minutes.

Where to Get Activated Charcoal

Most natural health stores carry activated charcoal in loose powder or capsule form and it is also available online. I keep both the powdered and capsuled forms on hand in case it is needed for poisoning and I keep the powder in a small glass jar for tooth brushing. Make sure that the charcoal is from wood or coconut sources and not petroleum-based.

It is also very important to note the difference between food/supplement grade activated charcoal and other forms of charcoal. I hope it goes without saying, but I’ll say it to be safe:

Do not use any other form of charcoal besides activated charcoal in your mouth or internally. Do not use leftover charcoal from a BBQ grill or charcoal briquettes. Do not use charcoal pencils or any other type of charcoal.

Charcoal Whitening FAQs

I’ve received some of the same questions about this process multiple times so I’ve asked friends who are dentists and done further research to try to answer them:

Does it Stain Crowns/Veneers/Fillings?

I don’t have any of these in a visible place to be able to share any firsthand experience. Readers have reported trying this method of teeth whitening without a problem on these types of surfaces, but I’d definitely recommend checking with your dentist before using this or anything else if you have any of these.

Does Charcoal Pull Calcium From the Teeth?

Another question that I’ve received often. As always, check with a dentist if you have concerns about your teeth and before using any substance to whiten them. From the research I found, charcoal binds mostly to organic compounds and not minerals so there should not be a concern of it pulling calcium from the teeth.

Is Charcoal Too Abrasive for Teeth?

This is one concern that some dental professionals have expressed about whitening teeth with charcoal and it is a valid concern. I was unable to find any research that evaluated how abrasive charcoal was to the surface of the teeth. A suggestion from my friend who is a dentist is to use the charcoal without brushing or scrubbing.

She suggested that anyone worried about charcoal being abrasive or anyone with sensitive teeth could accomplish the same thing by simply dabbing charcoal onto the surface of the teeth with a finger or cotton swab and letting it sit on the surface of the teeth for two minutes before swishing with water and rinsing.

This would allow the charcoal to come in contact with the surface of the tooth long enough to remove surface stains without the brushing or scrubbing action that could be too abrasive.

What Kind of Stains Does Charcoal Work On?

My dentist friend also advised me that activated charcoal will only work on surface stains that it is able to bind to, especially those from drinks like coffee and tea. This is because it creates its absorbent properties which allow it to pull these stains from the teeth. It won’t usually work on teeth that have yellowed from antibiotics or other internal problems.
After using the activated charcoal for a few months and swishing with diluted regular 3% hydrogen peroxide when I remember (at the recommendation of a dentist) I am really happy with how white my teeth have become!

Should you use Dead Sea Salt?

The Dead Sea is basically a salt lake which is extended from all sides of Israel and West Bank in the west and Jordan in the east. It is also referred to as Salt Lake because of the hyper saline nature. This sea is considered to have the lowest lift on land and is thus the deepest lake in the world. Because of its saline nature which is even saltier than the oceans most of the aquatic animals and plants are not able to sustain life in this sea which is why the name Dead Sea is given to it. It is 55 km long and 18 km wide when it comes to dimensions. Many cosmetics items and herbal sachets have been made by utilizing the salt and minerals of the Dead Sea. It is also a famous tourist spot because of its beneficial nature. The climatic conditions are usually dry and sunny during summers and cold during winters at the location where the Dead Sea is situated. It contains many minerals such as calcium, zinc, potassium, magnesium, boron, lithium, sodium and what not and thus is also a health research center as it provides various health related advantages. Salt and minerals of the Dead Sea are used for the treatment of many health problems. This article consists of the top ten surprising health benefits of Dead Sea that many people are not aware of.

Nervous System as we all know is an important part of human body and if nervous system malfunctions then it can lead to many problems such as damaging of the nerve cells of brain and spinal cord which may lead to difficulty in swallowing, speaking and breathing and thus rapidly progressive weakness. Thus failure of nervous system will either lead to paralysis or death. Floating or swimming in the Dead Sea can prevent all theses diseases as Dead Sea contains salt and huge amount of different minerals and most importantly Bromine which is an essential constituent that promotes relaxation and thus calms down the nervous system. Also, Zinc and Magnesium which are commonly known as the calming minerals in our body are also found in abundance in Dead Sea which thus helps to calm our nerves.

Proper blood circulation is very important for a person to stay healthy and fit because if blood is not circulated efficiently then it could prove dangerous as if any area will not get proper access to blood then it may lead to death of the tissue of that area which thereby will cause malfunctioning of that part. When people spend time in the water of the Dead Sea then the minerals such as Magnesium, Potassium and Iron which are present in there are absorbed by the skin and thus helps to increase the blood circulation of the body thereby keeping the body healthy.

Heart problems or heart diseases which are also referred to as cardiovascular diseases are very hazardous to one’s life. The most common reason of heart diseases is either thickening of blood vessels due to accumulation of fats or due to hypertension. Many deaths have been recorded worldwide due to cardiovascular diseases. Floating in the Dead Sea tends to relieve from hypertension and also the presence of Potassium, Magnesium and Calcium helps to control blood pressure thereby reducing the risk to heart diseases and thus ensuring long and healthier life. It is advisable for the heart patients to either swim in the Dead Sea or to apply the sand of Dead Sea over the body so as to keep the heart problems under control.

Hair loss is seen in many people because of many causes such as stress, due to high fever of viral diseases for a prolonged period, malnutrition, genetic reasons, harmful drugs, side effects of cosmetics, unhealthy water and many other reasons. Sand of Dead Sea has proved to be very effective for preventing hair loss. Many cosmetic products have also been launched which contains Dead Sea sand in order to treat hair related diseases and for the treatment of hair loss. Calcium which is the one of the essential mineral responsible for healthy and shiny hair is also the major constituent of Dead Sea. Thus, applying the sand of Dead Sea on the hair will provide a glowing appearance to the hair and will also prevent the hair from damage and loss. Also, washing hair with the water of the Dead Sea make it more smoother and softer.

Nowadays, due to hectic schedule and never ending demands, each and every person faces stress either due to one reason or the other. Stress can prove to be very hazardous as it is the root cause of most health problems. It can lead to heart diseases, depression, autoimmune diseases, sleep problems, digestive problems, obesity, skin conditions such as eczema and many other physical and mental health problems.

It is a well known fact that swimming helps to reduce stress. Swimming in the Dead Sea will thus help to reduce stress plus it has an added advantage of the Magnesium present in it which is also referred to as an anti stress mineral. Even if one does not know swimming, he or she can easily float in the water of the Dead Sea as the excess of salt present in the Dead Sea helps one to float in the water without drowning.

Joint inflammation which is usually characterized by joint pain, loss of functioning of joints, joint stiffness, swelling of joints or redness is a problem that is faced by many people. It can also affect internal body organs and can thus lead to pain in organs. Presence of Calcium, Potassium, Boron and Strontium is very essential for the body to prevent inflammation and availability of these minerals in the water and sand of Dead Sea thus helps to reduce joint inflammation to a great extent.

Wrinkles are the most undesirable thing on the face and to prevent this people use a lot of cosmetic products and items. Dead Sea offers the free and effective treatment to deal with skin aging. Sulfur present in the Dead Sea helps to provide softness and smoothness to the skin. Sodium on the other hand heals the dryness of the skin. Lithium and Strontium treats skin problems and Manganese helps to form a healthy and glowing skin layer. Thus, the sand of Dead Sea when applied over the body not only slows down skin aging but also provide sanguine and florid skin.

Phosphorus and Magnesium plays a vital role in repairing damaged tissues. Phosphorus is available in tissues and cells throughout the body and is thus needed for maintenance, growth and repairing of cells and tissues. Magnesium also helps in self repair of damaged tissues. Both of these minerals are found in abundance in Dead Sea. When one relaxes near the shore applying the sand of the Dead Sea or swims in the water of the Dead Sea, then these minerals are engrossed by the skin pores and help in the repair of the damaged tissues, thus adding up one more point to the health benefits of the Dead Sea..

Bones which are made up of Phosphorus, Calcium and Sodium are strengthened when the availability of these minerals is up to the mark in the human body. Deficiency of any of these minerals can lead to weakening or thinning of the bones and many other health problems. Dead Sea which is a pool of these minerals help to strengthen the bones by providing access to these minerals to the surface of the skin either through swimming or by applying sand paste to the body.

As we know that Phosphorus is utilized by living cells to produce energy and is a necessary component for the creation of new cells in the body and Magnesium on the other hand also helps in energy metabolism process and thus these two are essential components in producing energy. Being in contact with the water and sand of Dead Sea provides the body surface with these minerals and thus helps the body to boost up the energy level thereby making the person more energetic and healthy.

That’s what we all want at the end of the day. To be well and feel our very best. If something natural can do this for you, I say got for it!!

These are my loves for skin care. People think that oil is bad for the skin. It's not. Oil cuts oil on the skin. There's a huge difference between therapeutic essential oils for the skin and crap oils for the skin. Just like there is a difference between organic products and crap high priced products.

The amazing thing is when you combine these products with micro needling. The benifits are truly amazing but with everything it's about consistency. We don't apply makeup once a week, we do it daily. That's the same for products and skin care treatments. You should go to your aesthetician once a month. I had cystic acne with scarring that destroyed my skin. My skin is unbelievably better now. I did treatments on my skin religiously and still do to get to this point.

Fight Wrinkle's like a Warrior

Good beauty afternoon. If you are a client of mine or a friend, you've heard me talk about FrownieS and Essential oils.

Everyone always wants to know what they could do for wrinkles on the face naturally. This what I use and suggest. I've been using this for many years. FrownieS and Frankincense oil from Doterra.

Doterra essential oil's are amazing. No matter where I go, everyone will always see me with my Oil's. True oil's you can take orally, topically, diffuse them, or even put them in foods. Not all oil's are the same.

A little cool info about Frank, this oil will literally blow your mind. What is it good for? It can actually reduce the appearance of sunspots and age spots. If you have uneven color on your skin, some whiteness in some areas, any spottiness or splotchiness, frankincense oil is the number one ingredient that can help even out skin tone and help get rid of sunspots and age spots.
Frankincense essential oil is a powerful astringent, meaning it helps protect skin cells. It can be used to help reduce acne blemishes, the appearance of large pores and wrinkles. The oil can be used anywhere where the skin becomes saggy such as the abdomen, jowls, or under the eyes. Mix six drops of oil to one ounce of an unscented oil like jojoba oil and apply it directly to the skin. Be sure to always do a small patch area though first to test for possible allergic reactions.
Frankincense has the ability to strengthen skin and improve its tone, elasticity, defense mechanisms against bacteria or blemishes, and appearance as someone ages. Studies have shown that it helps tone and lift skin, reduces appearance of scars and acne, and heals wounds. It can also be beneficial for fading of stretch marks, surgery scars or marks associated with pregnancy, and for healing dry or cracked skin. Are you ready to buy 10 bottles now? It's worth the money and Frank only has one ingredient, frankincense. There's no other preservatives or crap in it.

FrownieS have been around since the 1889. They paved the way in show Alfred Hitchcock TV series in the 1950's. Shout out to my girl, Jamie Liveluaghlove for getting this pic.

They are basically a flesh colored piece of construction paper. One side has a matte finish and the other side is the shiny side and when wet it becomes tacky like glue.

You apply it to the desired areas on your skin at night after your lotions and potions. The tacky area gets pressed into the skin. Before you do that remember to pull that area nice and tight, then apply. At night the way we sleep can cause and reinforce wrinkles on the face, neck, and décolleté.

I will always be honest with everyone and the realistic expectation's of product's. Frownie's  will not stop the sagging or loss of volume in your skin. You need Frank and Micro-needling needling for that, please free free to call me for a reservation and pricing. You also need fillers, I suggest Rachelle Depetro at the Skin Center. She is amazing and a true artist.

Happy FrownieS and Frankincense Tuesday!

You can purchase Frankincense at

What's all the fuss about Detoxing?

What's all the fuss about Detoxing?

More and more evidence suggests that the toxins in our environment, foods, water, air, personal care, cleaning and beauty products, plastics, petrochemicals, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides hormones in meats, medicines, pharmaceuticals, dusts, dust mites, allergens, bacteria, viruses, pathogens, electromagnetic pollutions from our cellular phones, computers, TV's, microwaves, power lines etc. can have a very negative effect on our bodies and our health.

The presence of toxins in our body in any amount is not healthy or beneficial and the accumulation of  toxins is harmful and may lead to fatigue, general aches and pains, declining appearance, performance, decreased focus and mental sharpness, premature aging, allergies, and many other chronic diseases. Although it may seem harmless to many people, medical science is discovering that releasing and cleansing these toxins can have a great impact on health.

An ionic detox foot spa or a series of them can help your bodies natural cleansing and detoxification process. Feet soak in electromagnetically charged water and a half hour session may help recalibrate energy levels and detoxify the cells.

With the treatment I do on my client's, your body is completing an electrical circuit where a small current, too low for you to feel, is passed through your body stimulating and creating an energizing and refreshing effect. At the same time, a larger current is directed to the array in water. The array contains two sets of metal plates or rings, one set that acts as the anode and reduction at the cathode. As part of the process, gas is released. Bubbles will form depending on the amount of fats released from the body during the process. The treatment will infuse your body with negative ions to balance, relax, refresh, restore, and de-stress.

Have you ever wondered why you feel so good when hiking in the mountains, being close to a waterfall, or just walking on a beach?

Negative ions may explain! Negative ions are molecules which have more electrons then protons thus giving it a negative charge. These ions are created in nature as air molecules are separated due to sunlight, and moving air and water. Although the peace of being surrounded by nature is a reason enough to go outside, evidence shows that negative ions are released in these environments can aid your body's health and well being.

Pierce J. Howard, PhD, the director of research at the Center for Applied Cognitive Sciences in Charlotte, N.C. stated: "Generally speaking, negative ions increase the through of oxygen to the brain; resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy.

Thick Hair in your future

I have always wanted thick hair. The kind I can toss out the window and rescue someone with. Growing up, I heard that I have thin but a lot of it. That's great and all but I want some serious locks.

My hair has always been long and I started wearing extensions. The clip in's, the semi permanent, and Halocouture hair. I recently cut my hair all off! Worst mistake of my life. I truly disliked it. It's growing thankfully. I love the stage it's in now because it's shoulder length and I can toss in some entensions when I want. I call my Halocouture my Cher wig. Love it.

I'm always trying new natural ways to plump my locks. Found one I actually like and I feel works. Consistency is the key to life folks. Here's my goddess locks recipe:
2 Tablespoons of Cold Pressed Castor
1 Organic Egg
1 Tablespoon Raw Honey

You can put this in a container and store in the fridge. Mix it together before letting in set in fridge. You should do this twice a week for 6 weeks. I separate my hair like I'm putting hair color on. Same method with this. I use my finger and rub into the scalp.

You need to keep this on for 4 hours. I just go to sleep with it. I suggest laying a towel on your pillow and I have a vintage silk scarf I wrap around my head when I do this. In the morning you will look like a sea creature. It's not a pretty site but so worth it.

I started noticing a difference on the third week but remember consistency. It's important to use all organic food items here because this is absorbing into your head.

I hope you liked my little homemade goddesses locks recipe.
